LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers held a team meeting to address young star Yasiel Puigs baserunning blunders. Manager Don Mattingly called the meeting Tuesday after the 23-year-old Cuban defector made two mistakes on the basepaths during the Dodgers season-opening, two-game trip to Australia last weekend -- mistakes that made headlines in the media. "I thought it was a really good meeting, actually," Mattingly said Thursday. "But again, its one of those things that if guys want to talk about it, they can. I dont think its something we need to talk about. ... Were just looking to get better all the time." ESPN.com first reported the meeting. The dynamic right-fielder became an instant sensation last year when made his big league debut June 3 and helped lead the Dodgers from last to the NL West title. But Mattingly was often frustrated by Puigs decision-making in the field and on the bases. "He pushes the limit. He pushes it to the edge. But then you have to re-think it and think about all the great things he does to help you win games in ways only his talent can do," teammate A.J. Ellis. "So there is give and take, and hes learning. But its like we always say, wed rather make an aggressive mistake than make a conservative mistake." Problems arose again Down Under. Puig made two errors on the bases then struck out in the ninth inning Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He then did not take his position in right field for the bottom of the ninth, complaining of a back problem. An MRI was negative, but Puig missed the teams workout on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium to get treatment. "Its up to us to help him in that maturity process, and the way we do that is to support him and encourage him no matter what," Ellis said. "Hopefully we can all be good examples, and he can take stock and inventory of how the professionals in this clubhouse go about their business."

Boston had their winning streak broken by a shootout loss to Montreal, but its now been 16 straight games since the Bruins last lost in regulation. Among the teams moving up, the Phoenix Coyotes aer up from 19 to 14, their 9-4-1 record in the past 14 games keeping them in the playoff race. In that very same playoff race, the Dallas Stars are up from 18 to 15, having won four of the past five games. Heading the other way, the Tampa Bay Lightning lost three spots, from nine to 12, after going five straight without a regulation win. Goaltender Ben Bishop isnt stopping as many pucks as he did earlier in the year and that regression is catching up to the Lightning. The Minnesota Wild drop, from 10 to 13, not for a dramatic reason, but four wins in the past 13 games makes them easy enough to overtake. Two regulation wins in the past 13 gamess knocks the Winnipeg Jets down from 17 to 20.dddddddddddd As for the rest of the Canadian clubs, the Montreal Canadiens are up two spots to join the Top 10 following an 8-1 stretch. Surprisingly effective (15-10-1) since January 20, the Calgary Flames are up from 24 to 22, and Vancouer Canucks, missing Henrik Sedin, are down from 23 to 24. The Ottawa Senators hold firm at 26, though a 3-0-1 record in the past four games is a nice stretch, and the Edmonton Oilers, getting thumped in the past five, drop from 27 to 28. Lets not forget the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have lost eight straight to fall out of playoff position. They only drop one, from 22 to 23 because, even though he hasnt been at his best lately, getting goaltender Jonathan Bernier back in the lineup does help the Leafs overall rating.
