LOS ANGELES -- For three quarters, the Los Angeles Lakers tempted the sellout crowd at Staples Center into believing they would pull off one of the most improbable upsets of the NBA season. Then Kevin Durant took over and the Lakers got sloppy with the ball, turning it into just another loss in a season full of them for coach Mike DAntonis undermanned squad. Durant scored 19 of his 43 points in the fourth quarter and the Oklahoma City Thunder sent the Lakers to a record-setting seventh straight home loss with a 107-103 victory on Thursday night. "The easy thing to do is look at it like we didnt have the proper focus. But Im not going to go there -- because when you play against an NBA team thats prideful like the Lakers, theyre going to have a good game," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. The Thunder have a 1 1/2-game lead on Indiana for the NBAs best record. Their 43-12 mark equals the best start in the franchises 47-year history, set by the 1995-96 Seattle Supersonics. Oklahoma City is 20-7 without second-leading scorer Russell Westbrook, who hasnt played since getting a triple-double on Christmas Day at Madison Square Garden. Westbrook is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. "This whole group, they are resilient," Durant said. "We persevered through everything and just stayed together. We had faith no matter what. We are looking forward to having Russell back and make it seem less of a transition for him." Chris Kaman and Wesley Johnson scored 19 points apiece for Los Angeles, and Kendall Marshall added 14 points and 17 assists. The Lakers have lost 22 of their last 27 games and are tied with Sacramento for last place in the Western Conference. The Thunder, coming off a 98-95 win against Portland in which they held All-Stars LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard to a combined 1-for-17 from the field in the second half, trailed by as many as 15 points late in the third quarter while Durant missed his first eight attempts from 3-point range. But Durants first 3-pointer of the game cut the Lakers lead to 85-77 in the opening minute of the fourth, triggering a 15-2 run that enabled Oklahoma City to pull ahead 92-87 with 5:46 to play. "He just continued to play the game and do what he has done all season," teammate and former Laker Derek FFisher said.dddddddddddd "He is one of the best I have seen in terms if really just playing through anything and everything." Los Angeles committed seven of its 23 turnovers during the first 4:03 of the final period, and Fisher tied it at 87-all on a 3-pointer. Durant then stole the ball from Johnson and hit a driving layup that gave the Thunder their first lead, 89-87. The five-time All-Star capped the rally with a 3-pointer 32 seconds later. The Lakers came out of the gate like a team that desperately wanted to avoid surpassing the franchise record for consecutive home losses they shared with the 1992-93 squad. They led 54-45 at halftime. "I thought the effort was terrific," DAntoni said. "They battled the whole game. We ran into a little rough spot there in the start of the fourth. They got into us and we turned it over way too many times." Steve Blake made a three-point play after getting fouled by Jeremy Lamb on an off-balance 20-footer from the left elbow. That put the Lakers back in front 95-94 with 3:34 left, but Serge Ibakas two free throws put the Thunder ahead to stay with 2:38 remaining and they closed with an 11-7 run as Fisher and Durant each made two free throws in the final 17 seconds. Oklahoma City has won eight of its last 12 meetings with the Lakers. DAntoni was down to eight healthy players, with point guard Steve Nash sitting out because of a recurrence of root irritation in his back and hamstring. Los Angeles is still missing five of its top six scorers -- Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Jordan Farmar, Nick Young, Jodie Meeks and Xavier Henry. "Its been a crazy year, and there will still be some turbulence ahead," DAntoni said. "But I think during these next 29 games we will get honed in and try to get better. The thing I hope is that with all the effort, they get rewarded for it." NOTES: The Thunder havent allowed 20 or more points to an opposing player since eight games ago at Miami on Jan. 29, when they overcame 34 points by LeBron James in a 112-95 win. ... Oklahoma City will come out of the All-Star break with a six-game homestand beginning next Thursday against the defending NBA champion Heat. Brooks and his staff will be calling the shots for the Western Conference All-Stars on Sunday at New Orleans. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin will be sidelined at least another week with a sore throwing shoulder. The Rockies learned the results of Chacins MRI on Tuesday morning. The team announced he has right shoulder inflammation, but no structural damage. Chacin was Colorados top right-handed starter in 2013, going 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA. But he was limited since the start of spring training and had yet to throw off the mound before he was shut down on Sunday. Chacin said Tuesday that his shoulder was feeling better, but the injury could prevent him from being ready for the start of the regular season. Cheap Air Max 97 Nz . The Bolts will play for the third time in four nights having lost consecutive games to Philadelphia and Boston to begin the week. They were routed 7-3 by the Flyers on Monday, then dropped a 4-3 decision to the Bruins the following night. Tampa Bay has lost two in a row for the first time since another set of back- to-back games on Dec. 19-20. The Lightning got a pair of goals from Steven Stamkos versus the Bruins, while Ryan Callahan also scored for a Lightning club that still leads the Montreal Canadiens by one point for first place in the Atlantic Division. Weve just got to get back to the structure, Callahan said. We had lapses, mistakes. Youre going to have those throughout the season, but you have to realize it as quick as possible and not let it slide on you and not let it snowball. Ben Bishop surrendered four goals on 34 shots in having a five-decision win streak halted as the Lightning played without leading scorer Tyler Johnson (46 points) and defenseman Victor Hedman. Both sustained lower-body injuries versus the Flyers. The Oilers come to town riding a club-record 13-game skid on the road. They are 0-7-6 as the guest since picking up a victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Nov.dddddddddddd 9. Edmontons struggles on the road continued Tuesday night with a 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. Benoit Pouliot scored twice, Derek Roy had an assist and Ben Scrivens yielded four goals on 29 shots. Theyre one of the best teams in the league for a reason and you dont want to fall behind them, said Pouliot of the Blues. We started out slow and they took it to us. Pouliot has a goal in three straight games, while Roy has five points over his past three contests and seven in eight games since joining Edmonton following a trade with Nashville. The Oilers also are set to visit Florida and Washington on a four-game swing. Edmonton has won two straight and five of its past seven versus the Lightning, but has lost four of its previous five trips to Tampa. The Oilers recorded a 3-2 victory at home over the Bolts on Oct. 20 as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the go-ahead goal with 3:25 to play and Scrivens made 22 saves. Bishop allowed three goals on 23 shots, falling to 2-1-0 lifetime versus the Oilers with a 1.97 goals against average and .942 save percentage with one shutout. SAO PAULO - The duel for the Formula One title arrives in Brazil with Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg fighting to get into good position ahead of the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi later this month.Rosberg needs to win in Brazil on Sunday to have a real shot at his first title. Hamilton just needs to stay close to his teammate to close in on his second drivers title. The championship cant be decided at Interlagos this weekend because the race in Abu Dhabi will be worth double points, but the result in Sao Paulo will determine how the title fight will be set up for the finale.Hamilton has a 24-point lead and would clinch the title with consecutive second-place finishes or by coming third in Brazil and a second in Abu Dhabi. Rosberg will need to be nearly perfect in both races to keep his hopes alive. Its clear that I need to rely on something happening, Rosberg said. For sure its not enough for me to win, unfortunately, but thats the way it is. In sports, so much can happen, so Im still very optimistic.Hamilton has been on a remarkable run in the final part of the season, winning five straight races to open up a big lead going into the decisive races. He started behind Rosberg in two of the last three races but was still able to overcome his teammate and finish with the victory. Its been quite a phenomenal season, Hamilton said. This year, for sure, has been the best year of my career. I feel like Ive grown as a driver. The 29-year-old Rosberg led the drivers standings early in the season but failed to keep up with Hamilton in the later part. He hasnt won since the German GP at home in July, eight races ago. He stayed within range of his teammate by finishing second in five of the last six races. The start of Rosbergs struggles began almost at the same time as his relationship with Hamilton deteriorated following contact between them at the Belgian GP. The 29-year-old British driver was angry about being taken out by his teammate and Rosberg was also criticized by team officials.I dont think anything has changed, Rosberg said. It was an intense battle before and it still is an intense battle now. I dont know his exact opinion on things, but for me nothing has changed since then.Lewis has done a little bit of a better job since then. Thats it, pretty simple, Rosberg added. But as I say, still two races (left). The title race remains undecided in great part because of the rule change that made the season-ending race worth double points, a move aimed at keeping fan interest alive throughout the season.Great news that for sure this year I have a chance to win the championship the way it is now, thats a good thing, Rosberg said. Im also happy because its good for the fans and that its going to be exciting until the very end. For sure it keeps me very, very optimistic. It will be the last race at Interlagos before an extensive renovation at the paddock and pit areas. There were some safety changes for this year, including the addition of runoff areas and a new pit entrance and pit exit. Its a lot safer now, Williams driver Felipe Massa said. I hope we will see less accidents than in the past.Rain is expected for the weekend, which could add even more unknowns to the title race. Discount Nike Shoes Website . 1 Caroline Wozniacki and three-time champion Serena Williams cruised into the semifinals, while last years runner-up Vera Zvonareva succumbed to Aussie Samantha Stosur in Thursdays womens quarterfinal action at the U.FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Once Tom Brady gets their offence rolling, the New England Patriots are tough to stop. Some of the NFLs top teams — Denver, Detroit, Cincinnati and Indianapolis — all lost to the AFC champions by at least 22 points. Now the Patriots are in the Super Bowl against the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, whose four losses were by a total of 22 points. This is an incredible defensive unit, Patriots offensive co-ordinator Josh McDaniels said. They can take the ball away from you. They can get to the quarterback. They can stop the run. It will be an incredible challenge. The Seahawks, with the NFLs best defence, could stage their second straight Super Bowl blowout, having beaten the Broncos 43-8 last year.Pretty close to the Patriots 45-7 pasting of the Colts in last Sundays AFC title game.It feels great to impose your will on a team, wide receiver Brandon LaFell said in a clubhouse filled with smiles, and thats what we did all night. The route to the Super Bowl on Feb. 1 takes the Patriots to Glendale, Arizona, where theyll try for their fourth NFL title and first in 10 years. The coaches prepare us for whatever we need to get the win, said fullback James Develin.Even if it involves him catching a 1-yard touchdown pass, his 11th reception in 37 NFL games, as he did Sunday.Or offensive tackle Nate Solder being eligible in that game to catch a 16-yard scoring pass, the first reception in his four seasons.Or having backup offensive lineman Cameron Fleming line up as an eligible receiver nearly 30 times against Indianapolis.I certainly think its been a staple of our team that when we need a play, different guys have stepped up all year long and weve been able to produce points to win games, said special teams captain Matthew Slater. Its not how you get those points. Its just having them. And theyve had plenty. In consecutive games, the Patriots beat Cincinnati 43-17 and Buffalo 37-22.After a 27-25 squeaker over the New York Jets, the runaways resumed — 51-23 over Chicago, 43-21 over Denver, 42-20 oover Indianapolis and 34-9 over Detroit.ddddddddddddIn those 20-plus point wins, the Patriots scored on their first six possessions against Chicago, three of their first four of the second half against Denver, all four of the second half against Indianapolis before running out the clock and four in a row to end the first half against Detroit. Its not realistic for us to expect to continue to blow teams out like that, or, I dont want to say blow out, but win by a large margin, Slater said after beating the Lions. I cant really put my finger on what it is. I think its a culmination of things and preparation, I think, is at the forefront of that.In the next six games, there was just one trouncing, 41-13 over Miami. That was nearly the last one — until they overcame two 14-point deficits to beat the Baltimore Ravens 35-31 in the AFC championship game. That narrow victory gave them a chance for a bigger one.The Colts were about to be crushed again.Leading 17-7 at halftime, the Patriots scored touchdowns on their first four possessions of the second half and had their eighth win of the season by at least 22 points.Wide receiver Julian Edelman credited the coaches for the teams offensive rhythm. They scheme up the plays, he said. They go with what the feel is.The high-scoring roll began with a 43-17 win over Cincinnati the week after a 41-14 drubbing by Kansas City left the Patriots at 2-2. Beating the Bengals launched them on a 7-1 run with five of those games against playoff teams. It seemed like every team was at the top of their division and playing really well. In the end, it probably served us well, coach Bill Belichick said. It was a very competitive schedule. Our guys had to prepare and work really hard every week to be ready for those challenges. They did that. Now theres just one left. There are 32 teams that started. There are two remaining, Brady said. Were trying to be the one that finishes off the season the way you want to.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL China NFL Jerseys Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap Basketball Jerseys Online Stitched Hockey Jerseys Wholesale Baseball Jerseys Football Jerseys Outlet College Jerseys For Sale Cheap MLB Jerseys Wholesale Soccer Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys For Sale Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '

PHILADELPHIA - DeSean Jackson went from the trading block to the chopping block. Jackson is out in Philly — just as Mark Sanchez was on his way into town. Unable to find a taker on the trade market, the Eagles released him, ending the Pro Bowl wide receivers six-year stint with the team. His playmaking days are over in Philly, and the tailspin from key cog to unexpected free agent comes with a hint that off-field issues are at the root of the split. Jackson thanked the Eagles organization and fans in a statement Friday, and also denied "unfounded reports" that he was released for any reason related to his lifestyle. "I would like to make it very clear that I am not and never have been part of any gang," Jackson said. "I am not a gang member and to speculate and assume that I am involved in such activity off the field is reckless and irresponsible. I work very hard on and off the field and I am a good person with good values. "I am proud of the accomplishments that I have made both on and off the field. I have worked tirelessly to give back to my community and have a positive impact on those in need. It is unfortunate that I now have to defend myself and my intentions. These reports are irresponsible and just not true." Before releasing Jackson, the Eagles announced they had signed Sanchez. Bounced out of New York after the Jets signed Michael Vick last week, Sanchez moved down turnpike to Philadelphia in what essentially was a swap with Vick. "I think we passed each other on the train," Sanchez said, laughing. Sanchez can wave goodbye to Jackson, too. Jackson was coming off a career-best season in Philadelphia, leading the team with 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns. He had a $10.25 million contract for the 2014 season and was signed through 2016. "After careful consideration over this off-season, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to part ways with DeSean Jackson," the Eagles said in a statement. The Eagles had no other comment. Jacksons agent, Joel Segal, did not immediately return a request for comment. Jackson has 356 career receptions for 6,117 yards and 32 touchdowns. Hes a dangerous returner who went to the Pro Bowl in 2009 after taking two punts the distance. Jackson has four career scores on punt returns, including the memorable 65-yard game-ending return to cap a comeback win over the New York Giants in 2010. The 27-year-old receiver is entering his seventh NFL season. The Eagles had been put out feelers that Jackson was available. Coach Chip Kelly refused to commit on Jacksons return at this weeks NFL meetings. But other teams could be quick to sign one of the NFLs top receivers. Speaking at the NFL meetings, Jets owner Woody Johnson expressed interest in Jackson, saying: "Were looking at a number of players, including DeSean." Jackson could be a showboat — memorably dropping the ball in celebration before the goal line after an apparent long touchdown — and upset the Eagles this season when he lobbied for a new contact shortly after they were eliminated in the playoffs. His departure leaves the Eagles with Riley Cooper, who survived a video scandal that showed him using the N-word at a concert, and Jeremy Maclin as the starting wide receivers. "We just made an extremely unpopular decision, but I couldnt be more excited and happy with where this organization is going!! #FlyEaglesFly," offensive lineman Jason Kelce tweeted. Theres no locker room divide at quarterback. Sanchez, in his sixth year in the league, will be added to a mix of quarterbacks that includes Nick Foles, Matt Barkley and G.J. Kinne. In college, Barkley succeeded Sanchez at Southern California. "Im not stirring up a controversy," Sanchez said at a news conference. "Im here to help this team win." While Vick will compete with Smith for the starting job in New York, Sanchez comes to Philadelphia as insurance. Foles had a breakout sophomore season and led the Eagles to the NFC East title after replacing an injured Vick in Week 5. Foles threw 29 touchdowns and only two interceptions in 11 starts, including a playoff loss to New Orleans. The Eagles still have plenty of offensive playmakers, trading for running back Darren Sproles to go along with NFL rushing champion LeSean McCoy. The options were part of what made Philadelphia so appealing to Sanchez. "This team, this coach, the kind of offensive firepower they have," Sanchez said, "its just an exciting element to being here in Philadelphia." Air Jordan 11 Canada . That England side retained the Womens Ashes against Australia and won both the ICC Womens World Cup and the inaugural ICC Womens World Twenty20.And double Olympic champion Holmes, who was a live guest on Tuesdays Sportswomen show on Sky Sports News HQ, hailed Englands success that year as amazing. She said: The year the England women won the Twenty20, the World cup and the Ashes in the cricket in 2009, I thought that was an amazing achievement really. Holmes won two gold medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics I think they should have been celebrated far more than they were.It was an amazing achievement. The men have never done that so for me that was a real hats-off moment. Heres a look back at some of the greatest moments in womens sport over the last 25 years. The gender pay gap in sport debate continues to rumble on after members of the US Womens soccer team filed a wage discrimination complaint against their national federation at the end of last month. That came a week after Raymond Moore was forced to step down as tournament director at Indian Wells after saying female tennis players should get downn every night on their knees to thank their male counterparts.dddddddddddd Alex Morgan (left) and Hope Solo are two of the players that have filed a complaint about pay inequality David Beckham told Sky Sports News HQ he supported Serena Williams stance on equal pay in tennis and Dame Kelly agrees, insisting the women are just as committed to their sport as the men.I think were now in an era where there should be equal pay, she said.Women are putting in as much time, effort and commitment. They are dedicated to their sport and they can only beat the people they are up against. David Beckham has told Sky Sports that women’s tennis players should have pay equality with men They absolutely should get the same pay. I cant really see the rationale for saying no.With tennis the argument is that its best of five sets for men and best of three for women. But if you asked the women if they would rather have best of five or have less pay, what do you think they are going to say? They are going to say best of five. Give them the chance. Christine Sinclair has witnessed many highs and lows over the last 10 years with the Canadian womens soccer team, but through it all her reliably excellent play has been the teams backbone. That consistency was rewarded Friday when Sinclair was named Canadian womens soccer player of the year for the 10th straight time, and 11th overall. Her latest accolade came a day after the 30-year-old forward from Burnaby, B.C., marked her 200th appearance for Canada and scored her 147th career international goal in a 2-0 win over Scotland. "Internationally Ive been a part of this team for a while and been through many ups and downs, and three coaches, but its clear to see the program is progressing," Sinclair said Friday on a conference call from Brazil, where Canada is participating in the Torneio Internacional de Futebol Feminino. "I think both technically and tactically, the support from the federation, everything seems to be going in the right direction building towards 2015," she added. The national womens program is in a good place heading into 2015, when Canada will host the FIFA Womens World Cup. Canada won its first ever Pan Am Games gold medal in 2011, then made its mark on the nations sports landscape with a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. "Very few people get an opportunity to actually play in a World Cup at home, but I think we have a shot at doing very well," Sinclair said. "Everything were doing is building toward that and trying to prove to everyone that what happened in London isnt a one-off thing and that its sustainable. That Canada is a forced to be reckoned within the international scene." Sinclair called her international experience this year "interesting." She missed Canadas first four international games due to a suspension stemming from an altercation with an official after Canadas semifinal loss to the U.S. at the London Games. She also said that Canada is currently in a building phase and developing younger players for the main squad, which has meant results have been muted following an explosive 2012. But on the club level, Sinclair had a season to remember. She led the Portland Thorns to the NWSL championship with eight goals in 20 matches. It marked her third straight club title, having won in 2010 with FC Gold Pride and 2011 with the Western New York Flash. "I have many ties to the Portland area having gone to university there," she said. "Its a soccer-crazy city, and being able to reward those fans and that organization with a championship, it just meant so much to me to be able to give that to the city." Sinclair added that as big as international womens soccer is getting, a healthy domestic league will do a lot to help to grow the game. "For me its all about doing everything I can to help the NWSL survive," she said. "Its my goal to have this league around for years to come, so that nine- and 10-year-olds now have a place to play when theyre done with university and a place to dream of playing. "Very few people make national teams, but it doesnt mean that once youre done your university or youth club career that your soccer career should be over." Sinclair made the 10-player shortlist for the 2013 FIFA Womens World Player of the Year award and was honoured on Canadas Walk of Fame. Sinclair first won the Canadian award in 2000 and has made it her own since 2004. Six men have won the male half of the award since then. A lot has happened since her first award, from the highs of playing in the 2002 under-19 World Cup final in front of a big crowd at Edmontons Commonwealth Stadium, to the lows of finishing in last place at the 2011 World Cup in Germany. "I remember back to 2002 with the under-19 world championship and there being almost 50,000 fans at the final and thinking All right, womens soccer has arrived in this country," she said. "And then we went through a little bit of a lull. As a national team we didnt perform as well as we would have hoped to, and you didnt see the huge increases in attendance. But obviously what happened in London has blown everyones expectations out of the water." Sinclair said the benefits of winning an Olympic medal go right down to soccers youth level. "Just little kids who recognize all of us, because when I was that age I had no idea there was even a national team," she said. "Now these kids have female athletes as role models and they dream of being the next Erin McLeod (Canadas goalkeeper), that never happened 15 years ago." Midfielder Diana Matheson was runner-up for the Canadian soccer award, followed by McLeod and midfielder Desiree Scott. The award is voted on by Canadian media, coaches and clubs. Portland Timbers captain Will Johnson was named male player of the year on Thursday. Dylan Carreiro and Kadeisha Buchanan were earlier named under-20 players of the year. Marco Carducci and Sura Yekka took under-17 honours while Liam Stanley was named Para Player of the Year. The awards are sponsored by BMO. Air Max 1 Ireland . If we didnt get any more snow from here on out, we would be fine, Bills Vice-President of Operations Andy Major said Wednesday. Knowing that we have another 1 to 2 feet potentially coming overnight, that just poses another challenge. It usually takes three days to clear a 1-foot snowfall, Major said. The snow removal has begun, and Major hopes to round up 500 people working three shifts around the clock to clear the facility. The team has stayed in constant contact with the NFL, which will have the final say on whether to postpone the game or have it played elsewhere. We are working with the Bills today to determine the status of the stadium, NFL spokesman Michael Signora said in an email to The Associated Press. If a change to the schedule needs to be made, the league will make the decision working closely with the club and local authorities. The weather is supposed to warm by the weekend. The forecast for Saturday calls for a high of 39 and rain. On Sunday, the forecast calls for a high of 46 and partly cloudy skies.Though rare, changing the date or location of a game has happened before. The most notable switch occurred in 2005, when the New Orleans Saints were forced to split their season playing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and San Antonio, Texas, after Hurricane Katrina damaged the Louisiana Superdome. In 2010, the Minnesota Vikings were forced to play their home game against the New York Giants a day later in Detroit after the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodomes roof tore open. The storm forced the Bills to cancel practice Wednesday due to a driving ban in Orchard Park and its surrounding communities. And its unclear how many practices the team can get in before Sunday.Coach Doug Marrone and his staff spent the night at the teams headquarters going over the game plan and staying in contact with players.Us being able to go out and practice is obviously not an option for us, Marrone said. This is very challenging. Its a toughh, tough situation.ddddddddddddhe Bills (5-5) are already coming off an extended break after getting the weekend off since a 22-9 loss at Miami on Thursday night. The Jets (2-8) had a bye weekend off since a 20-13 win over Pittsburgh on Nov. 9.Buffalo practiced Monday, before players got their regular day off on Tuesday.Though he grew up in the Bronx and spent five seasons coaching at Syracuse, Marrone had never experienced such a snowfall before.Ive never seen anything like it, Marrone said. Its very difficult to put into words exactly whats going on.Marrone, defensive co-ordinator Jim Schwartz and defensive line coach Pepper Johnson found themselves in the thick of the storm while attempting to drive to the stadium Tuesday morning. They required help from a New York State trooper to exit Interstate 90. And couldnt get closer than within 5 miles of the stadium.Marrone did his part by helping push cars out of the snow.As much as 5 feet of snow hit a narrow region of communities south of Buffalo during a lake-effect storm that began Monday night. The Bills describe this is an unprecedented snowfall in their 65-year history. They estimate 220,000 tons of snow that need to be cleared from the stadium and surrounding parking lots. That would be enough to fill the teams practice fieldhouse facility eight times over.Bills players spent much of Tuesday sharing their snow-day experiences on social media.Running back Fred Jackson produced an amusing video of himself playfully tossing his children into a large snow drift.Receiver Marquise Goodwin posted a photo himself standing in the snow shirtless and wearing only sweatpants under the caption: This snow doesnt scare me.And kicker Dan Carpenter proved to be a good neighbour. Roy Noble, 88, told The Buffalo News that he and his 87-year-old wife Lorraine were pleasantly surprised to find Carpenter, who lives next door, shovel a path through 5-foot drifts to ensure the couple was OK.The storm drew attention from around the league.New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin deflected attention from his teams struggles by opening his news conference on Wednesday saying: Good morning. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Adam Wainwright won 19 games last season and finished second in the NL Cy Young voting. So far, his encore is even better. Wainwright became the National Leagues first eight-game winner by dominating Cincinnati again, and the St. Louis Cardinals pulled away to a 4-0 victory Sunday night that completed another successful series against their division rival. The Cardinals are 6-3 against the Reds this season. Theyve won 10 of their last 11 series together. Overall, St. Louis has won nine of its last 11 games and moved within 1 1-2 games of first-place Milwaukee in the NL Central. Wainwright (8-2) beat Johnny Cueto and the Reds on opening day in Cincinnati, allowing only three hits during seven innings of a 1-0 victory. On Sunday, the right-hander gave up five hits in eight innings and matched his career high with 12 strikeouts. "Thats the epitome of pitching, in my opinion," manager Mike Matheny said. "The people watching today maybe on the national (television) game, I hope they had an appreciation for what this guy does and how he does it." Wainwright set the tone by striking out five of the first six batters on a total of 24 pitches. He got Brandon Phillips on three pitches that clocked 73, 91 and 93 mph. The one disappointment for Wainwright last season was his rough showing against the Reds -- 1-3 in four starts with a 7.77 ERA. Hes fixed that problem. "Last year I was a one-side-of-the-plate pitcher and they just crushed me," Wainwright said. "This year, Im pitching a lot differently. Im using both sides of the plate." Tony Cruz and Kolten Wong each had a pair of singles and drove in a run off Mike Leake (2-4). Wong also stole a pair of bases. The game drew 42,273 fans, the Reds third sellout crowd of the season. All three sellouts have come against the Cardinals. Leake went six innings and continued his streak of solid pitching. The right-hander hasnt allowed more than two runs in any of his last five starts, giving up a total of eight earned runs. With Wainwright on his game again, it was two runs too much. Wainwright lowered his ERA to 1.67. In his last two starts, he has given up only six hits and no runs in 17 innings. "Ive never felt like this," the 31-year-old pitcher said. "Thats part of of the evolution of me. I expected to get better as I got older, and a little wiser. "Now that Im over 30 years old, I dont think theres any reason for me to start to decline. I think I should still try to get better and expect to get better." Cruz led off the third inning with a single and advanced on Wainwrights sacrifice bunt. Wong singled up the middle with two outs for a run. Matt Adams singled, Allen Craig walked and Cruz singled home a run with two outs in the sixth. The Cardinals added a pair of runs in the seventh with the help of two errors by the Reds, who lead the majors in fielding percentage. Wainwright pitched out of Cincinnatis best threat in the fifth, when the Reds got runners to second and third with two outs. He got Billy Hamilton on a called third strike to end the inning. Hamilton struck out four times against Wainwright on opening day and three more times Sunday, leaving him 0 for 7 with seven strikeouts and a walk off the right-hander. NOTES: The Cardinals return home for an afternoon game against the Yankees on Monday, with Michael Wacha (3-3) facing Chase Whitley (0-1). The Reds fly to Los Angeles for an evening game against the Dodgers, sending Cueto (4-3) against Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-2). ... Wong extended his hitting streak to seven games. ... C Yadier Molina got a day of rest. ... OF Peter Bourjos was better, but still out of the lineup a day after he got a stomach virus. ... RHP Mat Latos made his first rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, allowing three hits and two runs in four innings. The Reds want him to make at least two more starts in the minors. ... RF Jay Bruce went 1 for 12 with seven strikeouts during the series, which marked his return from torn knee cartilage. LOUIS -- David Ross never expected to be on a World Series podium. Air Max 95 NZ Wholesale . - Kentucky freshmen Stanley Boom Williams, Dorian Baker, Drew Barker and Tymere Dubose have been charged with disorderly conduct for their involvement with air pistol shots being fired near a residence hall on the South campus Sunday night. The day after Brandon Morrow walked eight batters in just two and 2/3rds innings and got the hook, Ricky Romero had a two-inning control meltdown of his own Sunday at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo. Facing the Reds Triple A  affiliate Louisville, Romero walked the bases loaded in the first inning and again in the second, but he escaped unscathed both times and actually lasted five innings. Romero didnt give up any more walks and didnt surrender a run during the stint. Earlier in the week, an upbeat Romero was on TSN Drive with Dave Naylor and co-host Dave Hodge and said he felt he was pitching better than he had been in a year and a half. He also said he would welcome a call-up right now if the Blue Jays needed or wanted him. As shaky as the Jays starting pitching has been this season, especially over this just completed homestand, Romero doesnt figure to get called up anytime soon. He simply has to be more consistent with his control. The largest pitcher I have ever seen in the Majors is C.C Sabathia. Though he has trimmed down now a bit, there were times over the past two or three years where he weighed between 285 and 300 pounds. Well in that same Buffalo-Louisville game on Sunday, the Bats used a closer by the name of Jose Diaz. A year ago, the 64 native of the Dominican Republic pitched at 347 pounds and of course was known by the nickname of Jumbo. This year having just turned 30, he realized it might be time to shave off a few pounds to try and prolong his career. He got down to 278, but the stat sheets now are listing him at 315. Jumbo racked up his sixth save Sunday against the Bisons. He throws with pretty good velocity, too. Cincinnati already has Aroldis Chapman as their closer, but who knows at some point, he may surface in the Majors. Historic Lineup Since the Blue Jays in the Pat Gillick era were one of the very first teams to extensively scout and sign talent out of the Dominican Republic, it only seems fitting that on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Centre, they became the first team in Major League history to field a starting lineup that included six players born in the Dominican. The starting 9 included Jose Reyes, Melky Cabrera, Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Juan Francisco and Moises Sierra. An equally, if not more, historic moment occurred back on Sept 1 of 1971 when the Pittsburgh Pirates fielded an entire starting lineup of African American and Latin American players including Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell. The rest of the starting 9 included Al Oliver, who later played with the Expos and the Blue Jays, Rennie Stennett, Jackie Hernandez, Dave Cash, Manny Sanguillen, Gene Clines and starting pitccher Dock Ellis.dddddddddddd Better April The Blue Jays started last season at 10-17 in April and they are already guaranteed a better first month this time around. John Gibbons and company are 12-13 with two games at Kansas City left in this month. But something to remember, there were only two playoff teams with losing Aprils in the American League a year ago. Tampa Bay went 12-14 but rebounded to finish 91-71 to earn a play in the knockout game with Texas to decide the second Wild Card spot. Cleveland earned the first Wild Card at 92-70 after opening April at 11-13. Conversely Texas had the best record in April at 17-8, but finished the season in that knock-out game at 91-71. All of that means if the Blue Jays are going to need 91 victories to have a shot at the playoffs this year, they will have to go 79-58 the rest of the year or 21 games over .500. Thats not impossible, but the starting rotation will have to be far better the rest of the way. Right now, the Blue Jays staff era is 4.45, 25th in the Majors, just slightly ahead of Baltimore at 4.49. I dont know if this is a plus but the only team in the AL East with a sub -4.00 era is Boston at 3.90 and the BoSox are fourth in the division just behind the Blue Jays. This and That Its really interesting to look at the early season gap in some pitching categories between the National League and the American. The Senior Circuit has eight of the top 10 staff ERAs. Only Oakland and K.C. break into that group. The National League has had 10 complete games to just four for the American, including two by Texas. There have been 34 shutouts in the National League to 23 in the American. St. Louis has six and Texas leads the American with six. I guess it just helps to illustrate why Ervin Santana chose Atlanta over the Blue Jays. After going 7-9 in their 1st 16 game segment against the East, the Jays have a 20-game stretch where they dont play their own division at all. Their next game against the East is May 20 at Fenway Park in Boston. In fact, they only have six games against the East for the entire month of May, getting Tampa Bay at home the week after that Boston series. The All-Star voting has begun for the Mid-summer Classic Tuesday July 15th at Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins. If voting closed today, the only Blue Jays on my ballot would be lefty Mark Buehrle and Melky Cabrera. Jose Bautista could make it as well, but more on his name and All-Star reputation at this point. I also did a rough count and if Buehrle keeps it up, his natural turn to pitch would fall on All-Star Tuesday so their might even be a chance he could start. But thats still a lot of innings pitched and a long way off. SOCHI, Russia -- Mark Arendz recorded a first for Canada on the opening day of competition at the Paralympic Winter Games. The 24-year-old from Hartsville, P.E.I., won a silver medal Saturday in the biathlon, the first Canadian ever to do so in the event. Arendz finished just .07 seconds behind gold medallist Vladislav Lekomtcev of Russia, who posted a winning time of 19 minutes 3.7 seconds. Russian Azat Karachurin finished third in 19:14.9. Arendzs coach, Robin McKeever, guided his brother and 10-time Paralympic medallist, Brian, to Canadas only other Paralympic medal in biathlon. They captured a bronze medal in the visually impaired 7.5-kilometre sprint discipline at the 2006 Paralympics in Turin, Italy. "It feels absolutely great and a big relief to get on the podium right away," said a beaming Arendz. "I fought as hard as I could, and it was such a close race at the end." It was one of three medals for Canada on the day. Josh Dueck of Kimberley B.C., also earned a silver medal in the mens downhill sit-ski. Mac Marcoux of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and guide Robin Femy of Mont-Tremblant, Que., claimed a bronze in the mens visually-impaired downhill. Dueck won his medal on the 10th anniversary of the freestyle skiing accident that landed him in a wheelchair. It was his second Paralympic medal after claiming a silver in slalom at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Games. "This is fantastic," Dueck said. "Im really about performance, and I took a fast line down the hill and took some chances and I got pretty lucky. "I crossed the line and was thrilled. Second is awesome." Kurt Oatway, of Calgary and Caleb Brousseau, of Terrace, B.C., were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the sit-ski category. Also, the Canadian sledge hockey team opened with a convincing 10-1 win over Sweden. Anthony Gale of Brampton, Ont., and Adam Dixon of Midland, Ont., led the way with two goals and two assists apiece. The Canadian team returns to action Sunday facing Norway. Four years ago, the Norwegians nipped Canada to win the bronze medal in Vancouver. And in wheelchair curling, Canada, the defending world champion, earned wins of 6-3 over Great Britain and 5-4 versus host Russia. The Canadians take on Sweden on Sunday. Arendz was fourth midway through the race but shot clean in his second stop at the range to begin his successful charge to a podium finish. "The plan was to shoot clean and I was focused on following that, but I missed that one target just slightly," said Arendz. "I thought I had it but a twitch of the finger and I just missed it. "I wasnt far off. I told myself to fight hard on that penalty loop to get over the penalty and finish strong." The course was slushy because of the warm weather, which created challenges for Arendz. "It is so warm and not really winter-like conditions so the course was really slowing down out there," he said. "The guys in the wax room did a great job on the skis. "I will celebrate this one with them." Russias Alena Kaufman shot clean en route to winning the womens standing class race. Caroline Bisson of Ottawa finished 14th. Margarita Gorbounova, also of Ottawa, and her guide, Andrea Bundon of Regina, were seventh in the six-kilometre womens visually impaired race. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The agent for wide receiver Steve Smith says the five-time Pro Bowl selection has played his final snap for the Carolina Panthers. Smiths longtime representative Derrick Fox told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Smith "is not going to play for the Panthers next year, I know that. I just dont know when that transaction is going to take place." Fox said the Panthers have been trying to trade Smith, but expects he will ultimately be released. He said the Panthers have not asked Smith to restructure his current contract which calls for him to make $7 million under this years salary cap. Regardless of whether the Panthers cut Smith or keep him, the club will have to pay him $3 million this season as part of the three-year contract extension he signed in 2012. Smiths current contract runs through 2016. Smith took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, writing "God has a plan... sometimes it just hurts (to) find out what it is." "I will always be a Carolina panther No contract can ever change that CLT is my home and will always be my home... I love you .panthernation." Smith also wrote: "But I still have a lil bit of football left in me.... .agent89 Out." Fox said Smith, a 13-year NFL veteran, would have preferred to finish his career with Carolina, the team that drafted him in the third round in 2001. Fox said the 34-year-old Smith was "disappointed and surprised" when Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman talked about the receivers future in uncertain terms at the NFL Scouting Combines last month. "Where we are disappointed is the fact he signed an extension to stay loyal to the club and complete his career as a Panther," Fox said. "That is why we did the long-term team deal. Now we are at a crossroads where the Panthers dont want him anymore." Gettleman did not return phone calls seeking comment. Shortly after the Scouting Combine, Smith met with Gettleman at Panthers headquarrters, but Fox said the receiver left without a clear, defined role in terms of his future with the team.dddddddddddd Fox said Smith diligently rehabbed an injured knee leading up to the teams divisional play game against the San Francisco 49ers with loyalty to the team in mind, thinking his long-term future was in Carolina. Smith had four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in Carolinas 23-10 loss. "He spent 12 hours a day working with (trainer) Ryan Vermillion to get ready for that game," Fox said. "His goal has always been to stay a Panther." Smith is Carolinas all-time leading receiver with 836 receptions for 12,197 yards and 67 touchdowns receiving. Smith is 19th all-time in NFL history in yards receiving and 25th in receptions. Smith had 64 receptions for 746 yards and four touchdowns last season helping the Panthers go 12-4 in the regular season and capture the NFC South championship. Fox said Smith plans to continue his playing career in the NFL when the Panthers cut ties. "At 34, they could have kept him and run him in the slot," Fox said. "Steve wants to play in the slot. But he cant play the slot with the current roster, and he hasnt been able to play in the slot with the rosters in the past." Fox said hes not sure why the Panthers havent released Smith. He said he will be ready when that time arrives. "Its my responsibility to find the best place for him to utilize his skills and passion for the game," Fox said. If the Panthers release Smith he will count $5 million under this years cap. The Panthers could designate him for a June 1 release which would allow them to split that money over the next two seasons. NOTES: Panthers restricted free agent cornerback James Dockery announced on Twitter he has re-signed with the team. "Blessed! Cant be happier to be signing back with the (at)Panthers cant wait to get back with our team," Dockery said. The team has yet to announce the move. Kaetlyn Osmond and her Canadian teammates are assured of at least a silver medal in the inaugural team figure skating event at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.  Osmond, of Marystown, N.L., fell in the middle of her routine and placed fifth in the ladies free skate at Iceberg Skating Palace (110.73 points), but that was all the Canadians needed after a strong performance by Kevin Reynolds in the mens free earlier Sunday. Reynolds scored 167.92, after replacing Patrick Chan who was third in the mens short program Thursday. Russia is guaranteed the gold medal after a sensational skate by teenage phenom Yulia Lipnitskaya, who pleased the partisan crowd and dominated her competition with a first-place score of 141.51. The Americans locked up bronze after a phenomenal performance by Gracie Gold, who was replacing Ashley Wagner (who competed in the short program). Golds score of 129.38 was good enough for second in the event. Italys Valentina Marchei (112.51) and Akiko Suzuki (112.33) of Japan, were fourth and fifth, respectively. Russias 67 points made it mathematically impossible for Canada (56 points) to take them down in the ice dance free, in which Americans Charlie White and Meryl Davis set a world record with a score of 114.34. Reigning Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada placed second (107.56).       Nike Air Max 720 Ireland . After team mechanics tended to the car, Ricciardo went back out for a mere two trips around the circuit before calling it quits. The Vancouver Whitecaps take on FC Dallas on Wednesday night in Frisco, Texas in the MLS playoff knockout match. If the Whitecaps are to progress into the next round, there are some key areas that they will need to focus on. 1. Stop Blas Perez The Panamanian striker is a natural goal scorer – and he has already hit the Whitecaps for three goals in three regular season games this year. Denying Perez opportunities in the penalty area is going to be central to the Whitecaps success. The first way to do this is to deny Perez from receiving the ball. By shutting off the supply line from wide areas – particularly from the likes of Fabian Castillo and Andres Escobar – Perez will drop deeper to try to get on the ball. The farther the Whitecaps can keep Perez from their goal, the less damage he will be able to do. If the Whitecaps cannot stop Perez getting service in the penalty area, the next step is to get as tight as possible. No striker likes to be marked tightly, and while Perez is no stranger to physical play, he wont fancy getting roughed up by Kendall Waston and Andy OBrien. If Vancouvers two centre halves can physically dominate Perez, the Panamanian will struggle to influence the game. 2. Control the area in front of the back four While Matias Laba was voted the Whitecaps Unsung Hero this season, his performances havent garnered the attention that they have merited by the wider MLS media. Laba has been crucial to the Whitecaps success this year because he has dominated the area in front of the back four. Laba covers an incredible amount of ground and is tenacious in the tackle. His distribution is clean and crisp, allowing Vancouver to transition quickly from defending to attacking. Against FC Dallas, Laba has to dominate the middle of the pitch if Vancouver is to succeed. This will not be easy, as the home side will likely try to dictate the tempo of the game by dominating possession. But this can work in Vancouvers favour, as the transition game is something at which the Whitecaps excel. When Laba wins back possession, his exit pass must find the feet of a teammate. 3. Pedro Morales has to perform up to his ability Pedro Morales has been a tremendous success for Vancouver this year, and he should win the MLS Newcomer of the Year award for his overall play. However, he has not played that well away from the confines of BC Place. There are many reasons for this; visiting teams tend not to have as much possession and are forced to do moore defending, for example.dddddddddddd But in the playoffs, the Whitecaps cannot afford to have their best player be anything less than their best player. Morales has the ability to unlock even the tightest defense; his passing range and technical ability are superb. If he can dictate the tempo of the game when Vancouver has possession of the ball by switching the point of attack and releasing either Erik Hurtado or Darren Mattocks in attack, the Whitecaps will cause FC Dallas all kinds of problems. 4. Dominate both penalty areas Set pieces will be a factor in this game; FC Dallas has players like Perez and Matt Hedges who are a threat in the air, while Vancouver has Kendall Waston and the delivery of both Pedro Morales and Mauro Rosales. The team that dominates both penalty areas is likely to win the game. Until the arrival of Waston, the Whitecaps lacked a genuine goal scoring threat from set pieces. The now-retired Jay DeMerit, Andy OBrien and Johnny Leveron have scored a grand total of zero goals for Vancouver this season. Waston has two in just nine starts since joining the club midseason, including the only goal in the 1-0 win over Colorado on Saturday that clinched a playoff berth for the Whitecaps. With Waston in the team, Vancouver is a threat to score from every set piece in the attacking third, particularly from corner kicks. If the delivery is good from Morales and Rosales, dont bet against Waston adding to his goal-scoring tally against FC Dallas. 5. Fortune favours the brave Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson has impressed in his first year in charge of the club, particularly in his willingness to give his young players a chance. In Saturdays victory over Colorado, Robinson showed no hesitation in replacing the injured Steven Beitashour with 19-year old Sam Adekugbe, nor with bringing on another 19-year old – Kekuta Manneh – in the second half. Both players played well with the game hanging in the balance, with Mannehs positive play winning the corner kick from which Waston scored the games only goal. If the Whitecaps are going to beat FC Dallas, their youngsters need to play like seasoned veterans. Russell Teibert, Gershon Koffie, Sebastian Fernandez, Nicolas Mezquida, Manneh, Adekugbe, Hurtado and Mattocks all have roles to play on Wednesday night. If they play like men and not like boys, the Whitecaps will fancy their chances of progressing on to meet the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference semi-finals. The intimate south London ground was the scene where Liverpool?s title challenge came to an end last season as the Reds coughed up a 3-0 lead with nine minutes to play to draw 3-3, essentially ending their bid for a first league title in 24 years. Star striker Daniel Sturridge looked set to make his return to the starting 11, but suffered another thigh injury in training during the week which will leave him on the sidelines for another six weeks. With Mario Balotelli also on the shelf after picking up a knock on international duty, Reds manager Brendan Rodgers was left with few attacking options. Rickie Lambert got the start up top and the move paid immediate dividends as the boyhood Liverpool supporter got on the end of an excellent diagonal ball from former Southampton teammate Adam Lallana and slid it past Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni to give the Reds the lead after just 90 seconds. But the Eagles drew level in the 17th minute when a well-placed strike from Yannick Bolasie smacked the post, but Dwight Gayle followed in nicely and fired home. The match really opened up in the second half and the hosts took the lead 12 minutes from time when Bolasie got down the right flank and cut it back to the middle for Joe Ledley, who slid it through the legs of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. The exclamation point came nine minutes from time, starting when Gayle got in behind Martin Skrtel, forcing the Slovakian defender to pull him down for a free kick from 25 yards out.dddddddddddd Palace captain Mile Jedinak stepped up and delivered a brilliant free kick into the top right corner of the net, leaving a sprawling Mignolet with no chance for a save. Liverpool pushed forward, but were never able to grab another goal as Palace hung on for all three points to jump out of the relegation zone with 12 points. Liverpool, meanwhile, are off to their worst start since the 1992-93 campaign with 14 points from 12 matches played. The Reds have also lost four straight across all competitions for the first time since 2009. Also in the Premier League on Sunday, Tottenham-Hotspur claimed a 2-1 win over 10-man Hull City at the KC Stadium on the strength of a 90th-minute goal from Christian Eriksen. Hull City had the upper hand early on and former Spurs player Jake Livermore put the home side in front after eight minutes. Things swung in favor of Spurs five minutes into the second half when Hull forward Gaston Ramirez was shown a straight red card for kicking out at Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen while on the ground, reducing the hosts to 10 men. Spurs drew level in the 61st minute through a goal from Harry Kane and just when it seemed the match would end in a draw, Eriksen uncorked a low strike from the center of the box with pace that beat Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor to give Spurs a much-needed three points. The result lifts Spurs to 17 points from 12 matches, while Hull City remains on 11 points, just one clear of the relegation zone. Team Canadas roster announcement on Tuesday generated plenty of discussion, but deciding who should wear the C brings even more debate. The two likeliest players to be named captain of Canadas Olympic mens hockey team for Sochi appear to be Jonathan Toews and Sidney Crosby. Toews resume is quite extensive: two-time Stanley Cup winning captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, three All-Star appearances, Conn Smythe trophy winner, Selke award winner, and member of the Triple Gold Club (Olympic gold, World Championship gold and Stanley Cup winner). He has won five gold medals for Team Canada in six international appearances, with the exception bringing a silver medal. Do these credentials warrant him the right to be named captain for Sochi? Or should it be the man responsible for the "Golden Goal", arguably the greatest Team Canada moment in international play since Paul Hendersons 1972 Summit Series winner? Crosby, named the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins in his third NHL season at age 19, has built quite an illustrious trophy case himself since his debut in 2005. The four-time NHL All-Star has an Art Ross Trophy, a Hart Trophy, a pair of Lester B. Pearson/Ted Lindsay Awards, and a Rocket Richard trophy to go along with a Stanley Cup title. Crosbys international resume shows slightly less volume than Toews, with two gold medals and a silver in five international appearances. But both players are unquestionably winners and leaders at both the NHL and international levels. How much should their international careers play into the decision? For all of the attention on Crosby and Toews, there are three other NHL captains who have spots on the Team Canada roster. Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim Ducks), John Tavares (New York Islanders) and Shea Weber (Nashville Predators) all wear the C in the NHL. Has their time come for a bigger international honour? REGINA - The Grey Cup arriving in downtown Regina via horse-drawn carriage. Baltimore Stallion jerseys. Easterners adapting to mind-numbingly low temperatures. Almost everyone and every building in the city dressed up in green. These are some of the memorable sights in and around the Grey Cup host city this week, but perhaps the most unique and curious visage of them all is something that is considered blasphemous to many fans of the Hamilton Tiger Cats - one of their coaches is wearing an Argonaut Grey Cup ring. The coach is defensive coordinator Orlondo Steinauer, who was Torontos defensive backs coach a year ago. The reason for donning the bling of the Ticats sworn mortal enemies? "I wear it because Im super proud," Steinauer told TSN.ca "Its a festival here, other people want to see it, some people have never seen it, so you just bring it out." The Ticats signed Steinauer on January 3 this year, a little over a month after the Argos Grey Cup win over Calgary. The Steeltowners hired Kent Austin as their head coach a couple of weeks earlier, and he quickly interviewed several people about becoming his defensive coordinator. He said that Steinauers philosophical viewpoint was similar to his, and that was a big selling point. "Not just about the game," said Austin, when talking about what he liked about Steinauers approach. "Schematically how (Steinauer) views the game, specifically to the CFL, but overall (his) philosophical viewpoint on how to build a football team, how to build a defence, what type of players you want to attract and to have on your team, because the players are going to carry your culture and keep each other accountable." One of the players Steinauer attracted was Brandon Isaac. The linebacker was an integral part of the 2012 Grey Cup champs before being unceremoniously dumped by the Argos early this season. The coach pounced on the opportunity to bring B.I. aboard. "The reason Brandon was brought in is that we were a little too finesse and not quite enough killer," said Steinauer. "We were still trying to find those guys who were going to impact football games and thats what Brandon brings, a little bit of tenacity, a little bit of nastiness, overconfidence, that kind of thing, and we needed that." Isaac relished the opportunity to be reunited with the Ticats DC. "Hes a players coach. Hes a phenomenal coach, he does a great job of explaining things and putting you in position." Isaac continued about Steinauers strengths, "His explanation of Xs and Os, his preparation before the game. A lot of times we know what a team is going to do and were prepared for it. Hes a great motivational speaker. Hes not a rah rah guy, he doesnt yell at you, hes just a calm guy who is passionate about the game." Steinauer was asked by TSN.ca to describe his defensive philosophy in one word. The one he chose tells you everything you need to know about his approach to the game. "Multiple." It makes sense because theres not one defence he throws out there on a regular basis. You may think that as a player who thrived under Rich Stublers match coverage, that Steinauer would use that as a base defence. The Ticats employ it, but last week in their East Final win over the Argos, that coverage was not used once in the second half. Instead the team brought pressure on every down, something the Argos didnt expect. That made defensive tackle Brian Bulcke, working with Steinauer for the first time, a very happy man. "He empowers us" said Bulcke, who played for the Stampeders in last years Grey Cup. "He actually puts a lot of responsibility back onto the players. Hes got no ego in the game, he just loves developing a simple scheme that we can execute and actually take on as our own and thats just awesome." And the multiple aspect of Steinauers defence is something he wears as a badge of honour. "A lot of coordinators come with the M.O. that theyre going to bring pressure, or theyre going to be a bend but dont break, or theyre going to be soft, or theyre going to stop the run, but give up big pass," Steinauer continued. "Were going to do whatever it takes to win that week." Steinauers word to describe his defence is multiple. His head coach wasnt able to be as succinct when talking about the job done by his right-hand man. "I dont think one word can describe it to be honest with you," Austin told TSN.ca. "The coaching job that he and his staff have done this year has been nothing short of outstanding. He has done just a marvelous coaching job. Hes extremely bright, hes very, very hard working, unbelievably organized, he stays on point, he doesnt let the little things distract him, he focuses on the big picture, and getting to that big picture by putting tangible things in place to achieve those goals. Hes just a really, really, really talented coach." Occasionally Steinauers name is mentioned when openings arise for a head coach in the CFL. If it doesnt happen this year, it wont be long before Steinauer is no longer Austins assistant...hes his peer. Air Max Cheap Online . TORONTO -- Toronto FC used to be known for its heartbreaking tendency to give up goals in the dying seconds. Doneil Henry, the man who scored Toronto FCs last-gasp game winner Saturday, knows that probably better than anyone. Jermain Defoe scored twice and Henry, who has seen plenty of heartbreak in his more than four seasons with TFC, headed in the third in injury time to lift Toronto to a 3-2 Major League Soccer victory over the Columbus Crew. The difference this season? "Its the guys that we have in this locker-room, we have some really bold characters, some guys that really will die for the game," Henry said. "Thats been the difference-maker. And we all believe in our coach, we all will stick up and die for this coach, for Ryan Nelsen. "So when you think of opportunities of winning games, and trying to finally bring the playoffs to Toronto, you think of the guys in this changing room." Defoe, the former Tottenham Hotspur star and biggest name in Torontos much-celebrated off-season signing spree, scored on a penalty shot. He then added a second when Brazilian striker Gilberto headed the ball onto the Englishman, and he one-timed a beautiful strike past Crew keeper Steve Clark. The 21-year-old Henry, however, was the star of the afternoon. The six-foot-two defender from Brampton, Ont., muscled his way in on a free kick from Daniel Lovitz with about a minute left to play to score with a glancing header. It was his second goal in as many games -- Henry scored in Wednesdays 1-1 draw with Montreal -- and another plus for the player whos rebounded from a couple of minuses. "In your career when you have your negative days, you can either let it eat you and be a timid person or you can stand up like a man, and just embrace it and just try to better yourself and understand the game better," said Henry, who ripped off his shirt while his teammates mobbed him. Henry had been making news more for the goals that cost his team -- most recently in Torontos 2-2 draw at Sporting Kansas City a week earlier, Henrys foul inside the box cost the team a Kansas City penalty shot. Nelsen is proud of how Henry has played this week. "Hes got amazing athleticism, hes got lovely spring, hes a good timer of hitting the ball," Nelsen said. "Its just reward for being brave, and trying to make an impact in the game and not letting the game go by, and then look in the mirror at night and think God, I wish Id made that run. As weve all done. "Youve got to be brave, youve got to put yourself in the arena and he did, he went for it, and he got his reward by helping us win this game." The goal boosted Torontos record to 5-4-1 and sent the 22,591 fans at a sun-drenched BMO Field home happy. Justin Meram and Augustin Viana scored for Columbus (4-5-4). Meram put Columbus on the scoreboard in the 18th minute -- several nice passes by the Crew found Meram alone just outside the top of the 18-yard-box, and he fired a shot past Toronto goalkeeper Joe Bendik. Defoe, who said he felt fresh from sitting out Wednesdays game against Montreal, converted a penalty three minutes later to tie the game after he was pulled down in the box by Tyson Wahl. "The last two games, we havent been at our best, but weve gotten results," Defoe said. "Great character to come back and win the game. Its not an easy thing to do. It was all about character again." Viana put the Crew ahead 2-1 in the 65th minute when he headed in a corner kick from the top of the six-yard-box, sneaking the ball just inside the right post. The goals were the only decent shots on target all afternoon. The Crew were more accurate with their passing and held a slight edge in possession. "Even though we didnt play that well, we stayed in the game, we kept trying. . . sometimes it was painful to watch," Nelsen said. "The boys kept going, they never backed out. Even the best teams in the world have really bad days in the office, but if youre still trying to do the good things. . . a lot of the times you get rewarded." Gilberto, the Brazilian striker and Designated Player that was also part of Torontos off-season rebuild, started on the bench for the first time with the team. Nelsen said Gilberto wasnt feeling well on Thursday and Friday, and gave Luke Moore the start in his place. Gilberto replaced Jackson in the 65th minute, and had a shot on his first touch, but launched it well over the Columbus net. He would have fans cheering, though, with his ball to Defoe on the second goal. "As soon as it came to (Gilberto) I knew he was going to head it on so I could just turn," Defoe said of the goal. "As soon as I turned I thought, this is the chance, youve got to just hit it as quick as you can. It was one of them goals when as soon as I made contact I knew it was going in." Toronto was awarded the Trillium Cup -- the cup competition between these two teams -- afterward. TFC had won the first game of the matchup 2-0 in April in Columbus. Both teams were playing without their captains -- Torontos centre back Steven Caldwell was serving a suspension for his red card in TFCs 2-2 draw at Kansas City a week earlier, while Columbus was missing forward Frederico Higuain to a suspension. She added that her sentence would be the same regardless of what a person does for a living.Werth, wearing glasses and a conservative suit, briefly took the stand in his own defence. He conceded that he may have been going 90 mph, but disputed that he ever broke 100. He immediately appealed his conviction to Fairfax County Circuit Court. It is not unusual in Virginia for defendants to receive short jail sentences on reckless driving convictions where the speeds exceed 100 mph.Werths lawyer, Rod Leffler, sought unsuccessfully to have the case tossed out, questioning the reliability of the troopers pacing of Werth. Leffler also asked the judge to take into account that the speeding ooccurred at 9:30 a.dddddddddddd. on a Sunday morning, when traffic was light. Leffler did not return a call Friday seeking comment.Werth, 35, has three seasons left on a $126 million, seven-year contract with the Nationals. He batted .292 last season with 16 home runs and 82 RBIs in 147 games. While the judge imposed a 10-day sentence, in reality Werth would likely only serve five days because of rules and procedures at the county jail.During the trial, state trooper P.L. Green testified that on July 6, he followed Werth for about half a mile on the beltway at 105 miles an hour before pulling him over on the exit to the George Washington Parkway. Green said he drew his weapon as a precaution as he approached Werth, though he quickly holstered it and said the conversation they had during the stop was cordial. Green said he asked Werth what he was doing and Werth said he was pushing his luck.Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement Friday that Werth has co-operated fully with the authorities throughout this process and declined further comment. More than a quarter of the way into the season, the Nashville Predators might be emerging as true contenders in the Western Conference. The Edmonton Oilers, meanwhile, are still seeking their first win over such a foe. The Central Division leaders will try to complete a three-game sweep of the Pacific stragglers Thursday night in Nashville, where the Oilers most recent stretch of struggles began more than two weeks ago. After Tuesdays 4-3 shootout win over Los Angeles, the Predators (14-5-2) are 8-1-1 at home with four straight victories, and another over the Oilers (6-14-2) would give them their top home streak since taking six straight from Jan. 7-Feb. 4, 2012. Theyre also 5-1-1 against the Pacific Division. Its been a good start, but at the same time to stay at the top of the league its probably the hardest thing, and everybody who comes here or any team were going to face, they want to get a piece of us, goaltender Pekka Rinne said. You have to be ready for it. But its been good. All the changes weve made ... obviously you got the record. Its easy to say that its been working. Craig Smith had a goal and an assist against the Kings and scored twice in the first meeting with Edmonton on Oct. 29. What hasnt been working so well is the power play. Nashville turned in a second straight 0-for-4 night against the Kings, and its 13.8 percent season mark ranks near the bottom of the league. Its penalty kill has also struggled with a 75.9 percent mark, though it has killed off 15 of 17 over the last nine games. At five-on-five, however, the Predators have been the best team in the league with a 1.68 goals-for-to-against ratio. Plenty of that has to do with the emergence of rookie Filip Forsberg and the additions of James Neal and Mike Ribeiro in first-year coach Peter Laviolettes overhaul of the offense. Forsberg has cooled off without a point in the last three games, but still leads the team and all rookies with 22. His plus-18 rating leads the league. Defensively, the Predators have limited opponents to 2.10 goals per game, which is among the league leaders. Rinne has been in goal for each of Nashvilles wins - hes tied for the league lead - and has a 1.97 goals-against average thats among the best in hockey. Two of those victories have come against the Oilers, whose seven-game losing streak - their longest since going 0-8-3 from March 8-31, 2011 - started with a 3-2 loss in Nashville on Nov. 11. Forsberg had the game-winning goal and an assist. More recently, the Oilers fell 3-2 in Dallas on Tuesday and are now 0-11-1 against the West. Even so, Jordan Eberle thinks the problems are more correctable than in years past. We were over-skating the puck and cheating, and thats not how you win games, Eberle told the teams official website. Were beating ourselves. ... Last year teams were beating us, this year were beating ourselves. Eberle has nine points on a five-game streak against the Predators. In goal, Viktor Fasth gave starter Ben Scrivens a night off after allowing five goals in each of his last two starts. Scrivens is 0-6-1 with a 3.88 GAA in his last eight games. The Oilers are allowing 3.45 goals per game and their goaltenders .885 save percentage is easily the worst in hockey. Scrivens is 1-3-0 with a 2.39 GAA in five games against Edmonton. Rinne is 4-2-0 with a 2.25 GAA over the past three seasons against Edmonton. Air Jordan 13 NZ . Henderson (20-3) received winning scores of 48-47 and 49-46, and the other judge scored it 48-47 for Thomson (20-6). The announcement drew boos from the United Center crowd. "Train this hard for this long, its such a long camp and I see my title shot disappear," said Thomson, who fought most of the fight with a broken right hand. The pair were a stroke ahead of a group of six golfers that included defending champion Brett Rumford of Australia and Alexander Levy of France, who briefly moved into a tie with Quiros and Dyson in the growing darkness on his back nine but bogeyed the par-3 8th hole before play was suspended. He has one hole remaining to play. Englands Ian Poulter was in a group of 12 golfers just behind at 3-under on a crowded leaderboard. Henrik Stenson, who has a chance to take over the top ranking from Tiger Woods with a win here, had a 71. The Swede, currently ranked third, has been battling the flu this week and didnt get in any practice time on the course at Genzon Golf Club before the opening round. "Im not throwing up but Im not too keen on eating and my energy levels arent the best," he said. "Its not easy to play a golf course blind, and it definitely costs a couple of shots when you havent seen it, or havent played it." Chinese 15-year-old Guan Tianlang, who became the youngest player to make the cut at the Masters last year, was level with Stenson at 71. "I think today I played pretty consistently. My putting feels good, but needs a couple changes so if tomorrow I got more birdies, will keep me going," he said. Quiros has six wins on the European Tour, but hasnt had a top-3 finish in the past three seasons. The Spaniard said hes worked on improving his putting this year and the results are starting to come -- he finished tied for fifth at the Joburg Open in February and then joint 13th last week at the Malaysian Open. "You cant see it yet on the rankings, but I have been playing better," said the Spaniard, ranked a lowly 240th in the world.dddddddddddd Dyson, who also has six wins on tour but none since 2011, said he played some of his best golf in a long time during his round, sinking six birdies to go with one bogey. "I really didnt miss a shot. I missed two fairways just, and didnt miss a green so gave myself a lot chances, which is always nice," he said. Stenson is coming off a banner year that saw him become the first golfer to win the European Tours Race to Dubai and the U.S. PGA Tours FedEx Cup in the same season. Hes gotten off to a slow start this season, however, with his best finish a tie for 14th at the Masters. According to the European Tour, Stenson can nudge Woods out of the top spot in the rankings this week only if wins the tournament and there are no withdrawals in the field to affect the maximum number of points hed receive. The Swede had back-to-back birdies on his first two holes, but then struggled to find the fairway and greens down the stretch, making four bogeys. He blamed the state of the rough for some "horrific lies." "I took a six on 13 by just being off the green -- you cant even get the ball hardly on the green to save par. I think its a course that when the rough gets that silly in certain areas, it kind of takes away a lot of skill," he said. Poulter is also looking for a boost, which he typically gets in Asia. Hes won three titles here, including the 2012 HSBC Champions at Mission Hills in Shenzhen. He had four birdies and narrowly missed a couple others, including a 6-footer on the 9th that would have moved him into a share of the lead. "Coming from Augusta National, where (the greens) are quite quick, you come here and the greens are very slow," he said. "Even the putts that look downhill, down grain, are just not very quick and it takes some adjusting to." SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Blake Costanzo had been keeping busy re-tiling his bathroom back home in New Jersey and doing regular yard work. He remained optimistic he would land himself a job, even as free agency lingered into its fourth month. The linebacker and special teams standout rejoined the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, signing 2 1/2 years after leaving the organization to play for the Chicago Bears. He signed a one-year contract for the veteran minimum of $855,000 for players with seven to nine years of experience. "The biggest thing is this stadium right behind here," Costanzo said of what has changed, looking toward $1.2 billion Levis Stadium. "There are a lot of new faces, but there are also a lot of guys I played with. Its a good opportunity to come out here and play some football again. I was doing too much yard work at home." The 30-year-old Costanzo played 16 games for Chicago last season and finished with nine tackles and a forced fumble while also contributing on special teams. After flying cross country Monday, Costanzo participated in Tuesdays organized team activity, and was one of the last players to return to the locker room after a session in the weight room. He said he spoke to a couple of other teams, but "the timing was right here." "This was a good opportunity for me to come here, compete and maybe help some younger guys they have on the roster," Costanzo said. "My only competition is myself. Im going to try to find a way, whatever it may be." Costanzo is also learning some new aspects of the playbook from special teams coach Brad Seely, who also coached him in Cleveland and brought him to the Bay Area for the turnaround 2011 season, coach Jim Harbaughs first year. "Blake was here with us a few years ago. Hes a great guy -- a guy who comes to work every day and a great team player," linebacker Patrick Willis said. "The guy is going to go out there on game day -- or even practice -- and gives it everything hes got. Were very fortunate to have a guy like that on our special teams. We lost some guys who had been some key special teams players for us, so to add Blake back is really going to help us out big time." San Francisco will count on the depth at linebacker that Costanzo helps provide given All-Pro NaVorro Bowman is recovering from a left knee injury sustained in the NFC championship game. Bowman could miss at least half the season. In addition, linebacker Aldon Smith might face a multiple-game suspension from the NFL for his off-field legal issues over the past two years. Last month, Smith pleaded no contest to three felony weapons charges and two misdemeanour counts of driving under the influence. He faces a sentence ranging from spending no time in custody to a maximum of four years and four months in jail. Smith is scheduled to be sentenced July 25, two days after the 49ers open training camp in Santa Clara. He left the facility Tuesday offering a thumbs-up. "For us, its not something we worry about. Hes out here working. Hes practicing every day," Willis said. "Hes working out every day. Hes been a great teammate. Thats our focus right now: worrying about the present. When that time comes, whatever is decided, thats what it will be. Well have to get better as a football team. If hes not out there, then as with last year, some of the guys will have to step into his place and play big time." Nose tackle Ian Williams believes he will be full strength or close to it by the start of training camp next month. A first-year starter, Williams 2013 season ended with a broken leg and torn ligaments in his left ankle in Week 2 at Seattle. He has had four surgeries since, the most recent in February to have a metal plate removed. "It took a lot out of me," Williams said. "Things happen for a reason. Im back, though, Im back." New York took Toronto FC winger Daniel Lovitz in the fourth round, only to trade the 23-year-old back for allocation money when the trade window re-opened after the draft.More wheeling and dealing is expected. Were a brand new team. We need players, said New York City sporting director Claudio Reyna. So were looking and shopping and trying to do everything we can to create the absolute best team we can.New York City FC took Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy in the sixth round while Orlando City SC chose Montreal Impact defender Heath Pearce in the seventh.Montreal added to its roster via a separate waiver draft, taking English midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker with the first overall pick. The 30-year-old former West Ham, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers player split last season between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Chivas USA.He fits the profile we were looking for in a midfielder, Impact head coach Frank Klopas said in a statement. He has strong leadership qualities and his addition will be positive for the group.Orlando opened the expansion draft by taking veteran Portland Timbers goalie Donovan Ricketts. The 37-year-old Jamaican international, a former member of the Montreal Impact, was MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010.Hugely experienced, over a 100 caps with Jamaica, said Orlando coach Adrian Heath. More importantly hes been absolutely fabulous in this league.Orlando traded for Houston goalie Tally Hall on Monday but the all-star goalie is coming off knee surgery. Ricketts and Hall made a combined US$473,500 last season, suggesting one may be moved.New York City FC coach Jason Kreis took two of his former Real Salt Lake players in midfielder Ned Grabavoy, second overall, and defender Chris Wingert with the final pick. Orlando increased to 22, including Brazilian star Kaka. The numbers quickly changed. Orlando traded the rights to defender Eric Gehrig, taken from Columbus with its 10th pick in the expansion draft, to the Chicago Fire for a second-round draft pick in 2016.Teams were allowed to protect 11 players in the draftt, with Homegrown players exempt.dddddddddddd They could lose only two players, with another player protected if one was selected.Toronto protected fullback Mark Bloom after losing Lovitz while Vancouver opted to keep midfielder-forward Nicolas Mezquida. Montreal protected Donny Toia.Lovitz started the season on loan to the Wilmington Hammerheads but ended up seeing action in 18 games for Toronto with five starts. Our goal was to come out of the expansion draft with our team intact, Toronto GM Tim Bezbatchenko said in a statement. We did our homework and took measures to ensure that would happen prior to the draft. To that end, we accomplished what we set out to do, and now our full attention can set on improving the team for next season. The 30-year-old Pearce started 20 games this season, his first with Montreal, making three appearances as a sub. The three-time MLS all-star has also played for FC Dallas, Chivas USA and the New York Red Bulls as well as in Germany and Denmark. He made $100,000 last season with the Impact, a bargain for a veteran defender.Ballouchy had MLS stints with Real Salt Lake, Colorado, New York Red Bulls and San Jose prior to playing last season for Vancouver after being taken in the re-entry draft. The Moroccan midfielder saw just 297 minutes of action in nine games last season — and 20 regular-season games in total over the last three seasons — but just being on the field was a success story after undergoing reconstructive surgery on both knees.Kreis played with Ballouchy at Real Salt Lake and eventually trade him in a deal that netted him Kyle Beckerman. At the time it was a very very difficult decision for me because I liked the way Mehdi played so much, said Kreis. Every team hes gone to, Ive continued to watch him ... Another selection that were very very pleased with.Kreis also took a gamble in the seventh round on FC Dallas defender George John, who missed all of the 2014 season due to knee surgery. But when healthy, the six-foot-three John drew attention from European clubs and had a loan spell with West Ham United.Columbus, Colorado, D.C. United and New England also lost two players each.
